Nostalgix

We had the opportunity to witness Nostalgix perform at Superior Ingredients in Brooklyn, New York, and quickly realized she is an absolute powerhouse in the Electronic Dance Music scene, both on and off stage. Her energy in conversation and in making connections with her crowd is remarkable.

Nostalgix’s journey into electronic dance music began in 2016 at a rave. Prior to this, she had little knowledge of anything about dance music but the culture, freedom, energy, fashion, and people she encountered ignited a passion within her to fully immerse herself into the EDM world. After about a year, what started as DJing for fun soon evolved into a lifestyle, leading her to delve into music production and go “all in.”

From her earliest releases to her newest Star City EP, Nostalgix’ music is filled with groovy basslines, captivating vocals, and addictive bass drops. She describes her style as “high energy house music.”

The Star City EP is a culmination of Nostalgix's diverse inspirations. She explains, "I really wanted to create a project that brought together my world of music production with my background in film production, creative direction, and art." She goes on to elaborate that the EP went far beyond the individual tracks; from the artwork to the visuals, the entire experience, from listening to the songs to witnessing them live, creates a universe you get to step into and experience.”

DJs and producers often draw inspiration from other artists in the industry. Nostalgix particularly admires DJ Snake, Tiesto, Skrillex, and AC Slater because they have encapsulated EDM music so effectively, consistently showing up both as artists and individuals. She finds this aspect incredibly inspiring as an artist, recognizing that to truly show up, care about people, the art, and invest oneself into everything being done is a beautiful thing.

The Star City tour began on January 12, and is set to run until March 30th, with scheduled stops in major cities across North America. Her stop in Brooklyn, NY, was her 6th show of the tour, and she mentions that the tour has already been absolutely crazy, blowing all her expectations away. The response has been incredibly energetic, with merchandise flying off the shelves and so much excitement in the crowds. Prior to starting this tour, Nostalgix had only played one headline show, making this tour a significant milestone that has fueled her excitement for her identity as an artist and her potential for further growth.

Touring undoubtedly has its highs and lows, and it can be some of the most thrilling yet challenging moments in an artist's career. The struggles of sleep deprivation and enduring red-eye flights are undeniably exhausting, but Nostalgix mentions that witnessing the excitement of the fans for the shows truly fuels her while on tour.

Before a show, Nostalgix mentions she likes to meditate and read some manifestation notes in order to center herself before going on stage so she can be truly present and soak up the moment with no distractions.

When asked if she has faced any challenges as a female in the industry, Nostalgix acknowledges that in the beginning, one of the toughest hurdles was gaining credibility. She describes the pressure to prove oneself, which can be particularly challenging because women shouldn't have to overcompensate or work harder just to be taken seriously. The industry is tough, you really do need a tough backbone to deal with it all; however, it does make you a lot stronger because you learn to navigate and stand up for yourself.

Finally, Nostalgix offers advice to aspiring DJs and producers: “Follow your heart and do what feels right to you. Don't follow trends or pursue something solely because it appears to be the right choice. Pursue your passion because you love it and it fills your cup. If becoming a DJ and producer is your long-term goal, you are undoubtedly going to put in time and energy, so create something that truly resonates with you.”
