BEXXIE
This past weekend, we had the incredible opportunity to attend the Lights All Night music festival, where we had the pleasure of interviewing @bexxiemusic , a remarkable female DJ and producer. Bexxie's journey in the world of electronic dance music traces back to the 90s rave scene in New York City. Despite initially falling in love with EDM, life led her to take a small pause from her music pursuits. However, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Bexxie decided to press play and resume pursuing her dream. She enrolled in the Cosmic Academy music production and artist development program, and dove back into the music scene. Bexxie began releasing tracks and securing bookings for shows every weekend. She mentions, “It got to a point where I couldn't do work and music anymore, and at the same time I had just booked a 23 day tour supporting Seven Lions. I needed to quit my job.”
Bexxie's musical journey has been deeply influenced by the early 90s rave style, evident in her sound selection and tracklists. Her dedication and talent recently earned her a spot among the 2023 Future of Dance Artists recognized by 1001 Tracklists. Speaking on this honor, Bexxie expressed, "To be amongst so many other women and artists of color really inspired me." She praised 1001 Tracklists for continually uplifting and empowering artists from diverse backgrounds through their artist showcases.
During the interview, Bexxie reflected on her favorite venues and moments from 2023, highlighting experiences at The Tacoma Dome, EDC Stereo Bloom, Beats For Love Festival, and the Caverns.
Wrapping up our conversation, we sought advice from Bexxie for aspiring DJs, particularly women. Her words of wisdom echoed encouragement and resilience: "You don't have to be perfect. Just go and put yourself out there, learn things as you go, and you will make mistakes. But if you put yourself out there and celebrate small and big wins, you will go further than you can imagine."
